C's 70s Themed Bash ⋆ Newton, MA
This birthday party was a true showcase of peace, love and groovy times! Cindy was turning another year older and her husband wanted to throw her a proper milestone celebration. With the help of their children, and a great vendor team, we brought the 70s to life right in the midst of the Boston suburbs.
June often lends itself to unpredictable weather in New England but we lucked out with a glorious Saturday to kick off the month. Set up began early in the morning with a dance floor install and lots of special inventory delivered by the team at PEAK. In order to bring the theme full circle it felt important to bring the wood paneling in often and to use table linens that were a heavy tweed. The wood on wood in the bars, DJ booth and dance floor felt very 70s living room while the linens and their dated coloring could have easily been in a trendy 70s wardrobe. The overall look was clearly 70s but in a simple and impactful way.
Somewhere that we weren’t quite as willing to go full on 70s was with the menu. The client chose to skip the egg salad and casseroles and opted to serve a deluxe sushi bar and street taco station instead - we can totally stand behind that more modern choice.
Luckily for us, Caper’s catering launched their Olive and Twist mobile bar just in the nick of time. It was the perfect welcoming element as guests arrived to the residence in full 70s fashion. As a planner, I know how much people love themes, but I was blown away (and often amused) by how amazing the wardrobe choices were. In return, they were all in awe of the authentic 1970s VW Van converted into a beautiful mobile bar. The Caper’s team kept busy serving specialty cocktails as people were given a glimpse back in time.
Throughout the night the team at Beat Trains took the crowd from soft 70s ballads to a full on disco party … party guests couldn’t stay away from the dance floor! Under simple strings of bistro lights and twirling disco balls the dance floor came to life. From Abba, to Queen and the Eagles there were plenty of iconic songs enjoyed by the crowd.
Of course, no birthday party is complete without desserts! To satisfy every sweet tooth there were passed mini treats: mini strawberry rhubarb pies, mini ice cream cones with sprinkles and mini creme brûlées. Mini treats for a big impact and crowd win. To keep the sugar rush going we passed out goodie bags from Olive and Twist with the fun nighttime lights on. Each departure gift was complete with a mix of iconic 70s favs: Razzles, Pop Rocks, Fun Dip, Whatchamacallits and beyond …
Happy Birthday Cindy, my team had so much fun bringing this themed soiree together for you!!
